The One A Collection of Short Stories edition by Kiki Reis Romance eBooks
This is a small collection of very short stories. The undercurrents are: female, black, transgender, betrayal. Although the stories deal mainly with emotions, the tone is strangely disconnected, practically clinical. The writing varies from personal and sincere to contrived. The erotica (and there is quite a bit of it) is sometimes genuine, and in some stories as if prescribed for the voyer. The stories dealing with Africa or African roots seem to be the most genuine. On the whole, the author has not matured yet and the feel is often like reading naughty compositions for the creative writing course. Also some quite sloppy lack of editing. I can imagine that the situations are schematic enough for many a black (or for that matter any color) young woman to identify with, but without a lot of insight. Despite all the criticism, still worth reading, except "The One With The Pocketbook", which is rather trite.Product details
